BUSINESS NEED
The Client's existing Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 platform was found to be insufficient in functionality and scalability demanded for their increasing business needs. With the decision made to upgrade to the latest SharePoint Foundation 2013 environment, the Client gave the task to our team to plan, design, and test a new SharePoint environment and upgrade it from 2010 to 2013.
CHALLENGES IN PERFORMING THE UPGRADE
Our testing team configured the product in different environments and performed version testing that involved the execution of test cases for complete functional as well as regression testing. The customer’s framework was tested across Windows, Solaris and Linux Suse with Websphere, Weblogic and Jboss servers across MSSQL, Oracle, DB2 and HSQL databases. Rational Clear Quest was used to log and track defects.
SOLUTION
With a deep background in delivering Portal solutions leveraging Microsoft's SharePoint as a platform, we performed the upgrade seamlessly into the Client's existing SharePoint environment.
METHODOLOGY
- Created a job for trial migration to identify the potential issues on various sub-sites.
- Created migration batches and execute them overnight. Final sync of content from WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2013 sites over the weekend before go live.
BENEFITS
The upgrade provided to the Client extensive document management and collaboration capabilities beyond what SharePoint 2010 offered and led to increased usage and organizational value.
